Sharp NetWalker PC-Z1

About a month ago Sharp revealed their newest ultra mobile PC the Netwalker PC-Z1. Now they have hit the streets of Japan but wont hit the US market until late next year. If you have to have one now you can get one shipped to you and easily convert the default language to English (how to video). The guys over at Pocketables.net just received theirs and decided to share.

The Sharp NetWalker PC-Z1 is being compared to the UMID mbook M1, they both have that clamshell compact design, a WSVGA touchscreen, 512MB of RAM, and a microSD card slot, but that’s where the comparisons end. The NetWalker is powered by an 800MHz ARM Cortex A8-based processor, with a 4GB hard drive, and a 10-hour battery life. Other key features are a full 6-row keyboard, optical mouse with buttons, standard USB ports, a 5" LED-backlit screen, and Linux Ubuntu 9 OS.

UMID Mbook M1: Coming Soon

UMID has gone back to the lab on their latest project, the UMID Mbook M1, after recalling an earlier prototype. UMPC Portal has given the M1 an in-depth review and has shared the results. Overall was given mixed reviews, performance wise meets all and sets some standards but lacks comfort and durability.

This Ultra Mobile PC displays a 4.8" 1024x600 touchscreen that performs with accurate precision. The UMID Mbook can run on Windows XP, Vista, or Linux. Encased in this lightweight clamshell is a 1.3Ghz Atom Z520 processor, 512MB of RAM, and also holds a fast 16GB SSD for storage. Also included are a mini-USB port, a micro SD slot, mobile sim-card slot, 1.3mp webcam, microphone, Wi-Fi, and a retractable stylus. The battery is a mini 18Wh 2-cell battery that has an average battery life of 4 to 6 hours. The keyboard is a compact mini QWERTY keyboard that you can use like a small mobile smart phone by typing with both thumbs.
