About a month ago Sharp revealed their newest ultra mobile PC the Netwalker PC-Z1. Now they have hit the streets of Japan but wont hit the US market until late next year. If you have to have one now you can get one shipped to you and easily convert the default language to English (how to video).
The Sharp NetWalker PC-Z1 is being compared to the UMID mbook M1, they both have that clamshell compact design, a WSVGA touchscreen, 512MB of RAM, and a microSD card slot, but that’s where the comparisons end. The NetWalker is powered by an 800MHz ARM Cortex A8-based processor, with a 4GB hard drive, and a 10-hour battery life. Other key features are a full 6-row keyboard, optical mouse with buttons, standard USB ports, a 5" LED-backlit screen, and Linux Ubuntu 9 OS.

UMID has gone back to the lab on their latest project, the UMID Mbook M1, after recalling an earlier prototype. UMPC Portal has given the M1 an in-depth review and has shared the results. Overall was given mixed reviews, performance wise meets all and sets some standards but lacks comfort and durability.

This Ultra Mobile PC displays a 4.8" 1024x600 touchscreen that performs with accurate precision. The UMID Mbook can run on Windows XP, Vista, or Linux. Encased in this lightweight clamshell is a 1.3Ghz Atom Z520 processor, 512MB of RAM, and also holds a fast 16GB SSD for storage. Also included are a mini-USB port, a micro SD slot, mobile sim-card slot, 1.3mp webcam, microphone, Wi-Fi, and a retractable stylus. The battery is a mini 18Wh 2-cell battery that has an average battery life of 4 to 6 hours. The keyboard is a compact mini QWERTY keyboard that you can use like a small mobile smart phone by typing with both thumbs.

Now here are the downfalls, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack and no built-in USB 2.0 port. You have to carry around a big awkward dongle that plugs into the side allowing you to use those features. So if you want something light and pocket size for some mobile computing you can pick up a UMID Mbook M1 for $500 to $700 sometime soon.

It looks like Lenovo has made a pocket sized computer to compete with the Sony Vaio-P called the Pocket Yoga. I believe this netbook is still in the concept stages but it would be nice to see this one made. Incased in leather for a more sophisticated look, including a high fashion leather strap. It's not just a netbook it is also a convertible tablet with and ulta-wide screen. Also from the concept drawings it looks like besides having a touch screen and stylus, the leather strap converts into an usable wireless mouse. Amazing! The details on this are still to be released but I hope we found out more from Lenovo soon.

Bit-tech was given the chance to give an early review of the new ASUS Eee PC T91. They discuss its higher quality compared to lower end Eee PC's. But despite its quality it still has its share of flaws. The touch screen is not up to par with other touch screens in its class and doesn't include multi-touch technology. Also another big problem is the smudge factor on the touch screen and its ability to show fingerprints. It is planned for release in a few months and will come in 5 different colors (white, champagne, navy, black, and pink). Here are some of its specs and some exclusive pics from Bit-tech. Read their full review here.

The UMPC world has a new arrival to the scene brought to you by Viliv called the S7. It is a lightweight netbook/tablet with a respectable 7" screen. It has everything else a normal netbook would have just twice as small. They include a larger keyboard for a more comfortable feel. Also included is a standard Atom processor, 1 GB of RAM, 60 GB hard drive, and can run Windows XP. It is very similar to the new Sony VIAO P with its 1024x600 touch screen but has the added bonus of also being a tablet PC with its swivel out screen. Hopefully we will see this model in the states by the end of this year.
